Our annual end-of-year concert is a major highlight of the dancing year! Our adults absolutely love the opportunity they get to work towards the goal of performing on stage together. From absolute beginners to advanced dancers in all shapes and sizes and from all walks of life, it’s a truly exciting and rewarding experience. The concert is that time of year when we recognise how much dance means to us all and how much of a family we have here at Dance Habit.
WHEN IS THE CONCERT?
- Sunday 17 December, 2.30pm; and
- Sunday 17 December, 6.00pm
To be eligible to participate in the concert, all adults must perform in both concerts. We do two concerts because:
- We love being on stage and work so hard in the lead up that it makes perfect sense to double the enjoyment;
- All dancers learn choreography as a group, which means each student has a special place within their dance and they rely on one another during the performance.
WHERE IS THE CONCERT HELD?
At the beautiful Moonee Ponds Clocktower Centre. We are very lucky to have an annual booking at this theatre – it is very special.
We will hold a dress rehearsal for all adult classes at the venue on Monday 11 December after work hours. Classes who want or need an extra rehearsal after this date may be called in on the morning of Sunday 17 December.
No dress rehearsal = no performance.
It is compulsory for all students performing in the concert to attend their dress rehearsal. This is to familiarise performers with the venue, dressing rooms and stage and to ensure you are comfortable with the environment. Furthermore, the venue enforces a safety induction for all performers and this briefing will be conducted at dress rehearsals.
Dress rehearsals are held at the performance venue and all students must present in full costume with hair and makeup done as required for the concert.
A more detailed schedule will be released once finalised. Please be aware that dress rehearsal schedules are a guide only. Due to the nature of these events, it is possible that rehearsals may not run strictly to schedule so we request your patience on the day. Note that the dress rehearsal is a closed session (i.e. family and friends will not be able to watch).
PHOTO DAY, STUDIO REHEARSAL & PIZZA NIGHT – SATURDAY 9 DECEMBER
Attendance is highly recommended.
This is a fabulous afternoon/evening for us all to get together before the concert. We would love to offer the opportunity for professional photography of students in costume on this day, however it will be subject to scheduling as the photographer is here all day with our Middle School students. We’ll confirm as soon as possible. Note that stage photos are taken during the concert and these images will be available shortly after the event. You are welcome to purchase directly from the photographer if desired.
Regardless of the photo situation above, we will hold a studio rehearsal for all adult students followed by pizza for everyone ($10 per person). The rehearsal is a great opportunity to watch all of the other classes, have a practice dancing for an audience and to iron out any kinks before the final week and lead up to the show day. It’s also heaps of fun! Not compulsory, but highly recommended.
We want to ensure everyone feels comfortable on stage, so we ask students to take an active role in sourcing the costumes (with guidance from the relevant teacher). If a bulk purchase is needed, we will order and pay for these on behalf of the class then invoice each student for the cost of their costume and shipping if required (no markup).
Each class has a private Facebook group page and we encourage discussion both on there and before or after classes. We hope that this will ensure everyone is happy with the final product.
WHAT ARE THE TICKET PRICES AND HOW DO I ORDER?
Ticket sales are managed directly by the Clocktower Centre Box Office and go on sale in October. There are no limits per family and it will be first-in, first-served. We’ll send out the on-sale date and booking link as soon as we have confirmation from the Clocktower Centre.
Ticket prices are $32 for adults, $24 for concession card holders and $15 for children. We also have performer tickets for those who only dance in one half of the show and would like to watch the other half from the audience.
CONCERT RUNNING ORDER
A copy of the running order will be available here once finalised.
Students who are only dancing in one half of the concert may buy a ticket/seat to watch the half that they are not dancing in. These are $10 and must be booked by phoning the Box Office as they are not available online. We suggest booking with the rest of your tickets so you can be seated together.
CONCERT COMPLIANCE FORM
Click here to download a new copy if you have lost yours. These are due back no later than Saturday 21 October.
WHAT IF I CAN’T DO THE CONCERT?
We absolutely understand that some students may not be able to commit to the concert. It is our preference to close concert classes mid-November and offer non-concert classes for these students. Once we have collected compliance forms, we will have a better idea of numbers and popular genres for new (non-concert) classes. We hope to accommodate everyone in a class that suits for the remainder of the year.
I HAVE A QUESTION YOU HAVEN’T ANSWERED…
Please contact us by email if anything is unclear. Your feedback is welcome and your cooperation and patience is sincerely appreciated.
Happy concert season everyone – enjoy the magic!!
