Preschool (Extra) Concert 2018

Our annual end-of-year concert is a great way to showcase the talent we have at Dance Habit. In 2018 we held our Preschool Concert in August, however, a number of students have expressed interest in also joining our Middle/Adult School Concert on Sunday 25 November! This page is for those students who have opted in.

Please read thoroughly and let us know if you have any questions.

* Note: Move with Me students do not participate in our end-of-year concerts.

Sunday 25 November 2018
Moonee Ponds, Clocktower Centre, 750 Mt Alexander Road

Preschoolers only dance in one concert. All students have been confirmed for either the 2.30pm or 6.00pm concert. If you are unsure, please check with us directly.

Note that dancers are required early as we hold a dress rehearsal prior to each concert. Dress rehearsal is super important as it allows the children to familiarise themselves with the theatre and have a practice on the stage. Parents are not permitted to watch the dress rehearsal (unless volunteering as a backstage guardian) so you will have an hour or so to go and get a coffee/have a walk. Most studios hold dress rehearsal on a separate day but we like to make it nice and easy for you! We want to ensure all dancers feel confident on the day and it is important that no one feels rushed, so please be on time. Note that students who do not attend dress rehearsal may not be permitted to dance in the concert.

Here’s a quick video to give you some helpful tips for the day – what to pack, what to wear to the theatre and what happens when you arrive. Click here to view.

We have prepared a schedule for the day so you know what time to arrive and when to collect your dancer. Please click the link below and be sure to diarise the times now.

Preschool Concert Schedule

Tickets go on sale at 9.00AM on FRIDAY 26 October

Before you book your tickets, please consider volunteering to assist backstage. The concert is not possible without parent volunteers. We require a minimum of two adults per group to chaperone the children backstage. Volunteers must have a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) and are required for the dress rehearsal prior to the performance and for the first Act of the Concert.

Parent volunteers are able to share in the excitement with their child backstage – and you can watch from the side of the stage too! You will not require a ticket for the audience if you are volunteering backstage. Please contact us if you would like to volunteer.

Ticket sales are managed directly by the Clocktower Centre Box Office. You will be able to book online HERE or by phoning the Box Office on (03) 9243 9191. There are no limits per family and it will be first-in, first-served. This means that we will take no responsibility should tickets sell out.

Ticket prices reflect the cost to hire a professional theatre venue. Prices are $35 for adults, $27 for concession card holders and full time students and $15 for children and performers.

Ticket prices are

  • $35 for adults (18 years +)
  • $27 for concession card holders and full time students
  • $15 for children (18 months to 17 years)

Special notes:

  • You do not need to purchase a ticket for performers. Preschool students only dance in Act 1 and they must be collected from the dressing room at intermission. Please purchase your dancer a Child Ticket to join you in the audience for Act 2 if you are intending to stay for the full concert. We recommend staying if possible!
  • Backstage guardians, you do not need a ticket unless you are intending to watch Act 2.

Please leave prams in the car – there is minimal room in the foyer and they cannot be taken into the theatre.

All students will be provided with their costume plus ballet tights (for girls). Hair accessories will be handed out on concert day so please bring bobby pins to secure these on arrival. Costumes are yours to keep after the event.

Please note that all students must wear pink ballet shoes unless otherwise specified with you in person. No child is permitted to dance in bare feet at the concert. If you need assistance with purchasing ballet shoes, please contact us – there are a number of second-hand options available to you.

Students in the 2.30pm concert are required to wear their hair in a ballet bun . Students in the 6.00pm concert are required to wear their hair in a high ponytail.

We have additional hair accessories for all children, which we’ll give to you in the foyer on arrival. Please bring some bobby pins to secure these. A ballet bun tutorial can be found below.

Very basic makeup is recommended so we can see your little dancer’s features on stage and also on the DVD. We understand however, that some parents may be adverse to makeup and for this reason, it is not compulsory. For those happy to wear makeup, we have prepared a video tutorial for you and also some product and colour recommendations. Any parents strictly against makeup must make this clear to their backstage guardian on drop off.

“I’d like to take the opportunity to let you know just how much my daughter loved everything about the concert, she was one delighted little girl! And as a parent experiencing it for the first time, it was just wonderful. I actually said to my husband on the way home from the concert that it had probably been one of the only times I’ve ever walked away from something feeling like I’ve been communicated to perfectly and that you and the team had genuinely considered every angle of the experience for families – you provided the perfect amount of information and in the right format (emails and those videos, so helpful!) without it being overwhelming for us. You helped us to help you. And the planning and execution of logistics on the day… holy moly, you are all clearly exceptional humans! We fully appreciate that we stumbled onto something special when we joined the dance school at the end of our street.” Kate Randles, 2018
