Move with Me
Toddlers 18 months +

Discover music and movement with your two-year-old in a fun and relaxed environment. Parents or caregivers are invited to join in to assist our youngest dancers – a great morning out for you and your little one to share! New students who have turned 3 in the three months prior to enrolment should start with this class first.

Fairies & Pixies
3-4-year-olds

A program designed for children aged 3+. This class is especially for those budding ballet dancers and ballerinas who show a particular interest in classical dance. A transition to Intro to Dance may be recommended for some 4-year-olds at any time during the year.

Intro to Dance
Children in 4-year-old Kindergarten

These classes are run in a slightly more structured dance environment. Students learn the foundations of ballet and jazz and are invited to become more independent in the dance studio.

Dance Fundamentals
Preps (School Starters)

In Dance Fundamentals, students are introduced to the fundamental elements of ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, contemporary and acrodance, while remaining with the same teacher throughout the year. Dance Fundamentals aims to give students an exciting and varied dance experience with teachers focusing on encouraging and further developing the individual interests of every dancer.

Hip Hop
Ages 3 to adults

Hip Hop dancing started around 50 years ago on the streets of New York with the foundations of Breakdancing, Locking and Popping. It has continued to be a very social and accessible form of dance, powerful in bringing people together while celebrating individual self-expression. Our hip hop classes focus on rhythm in grooves, strong technical foundations, travelling and freestyle. Great for the beginner dancer, hip hop is high cardio fun!

Ballet
Ages 3 to adults

Ballet started in the Courts of Italy around 500 years ago. It quickly spread from Italy to France, then all over Europe in the first half of the 19th century. Today, ballet is considered one of the most influential forms of dance and recognised across the world for its discipline, technique, and elegance. Ballet provides the strongest technique base from which to excel in other genres of dance. Our classes focus on posture, placement, and artistic quality.

Pointe

Pointe shoes are a rite of passage for many ballet dancers, but they are not a guarantee. We have a stringent process for any dancer wishing to pursue Pointe work, which includes a minimum of two ballet classes per week, a dance conditioning program and when ready, a physio assessment. It can take many years of hard work and self-discipline so when the time comes, it’s a big celebration here! Our priority is safety first.

Tap
Grade 1 to Adults

Tap dance is perfect for students who love to make a bit of noise! Tap shoes feature metal plates under the balls and heels of the dancer’s feet, which make rhythmic sounds when combined with rapid foot movements. Our classes have a strong focus on technique, travel, dynamics, rhythm, and musicality. We draw inspiration from famous figures such as Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, but we also know that this form of dance is constantly evolving (think Tap Dogs and Stomp). So, we mix it up with both Broadway and Street style to give our students the best of both worlds.

Jazz
Grade 1 to adults

With African origins, jazz dance dates back to the 19th century. Its evolution saw the birth of well-known styles like Swing and Disco. In the dance studio setting, you’ll find strong technical foundations with a focus on travel, direction, and dynamics, floorwork, choreography and performance. Using popular, age-appropriate music, our jazz classes are energetic and fast-paced. You’ll learn to kick, turn, and jump while lifting the heartrate and having a blast.

Broadway Jazz
Adults

If you love Broadway shows and show-tunes, this is the class for you! You’ll find jazz kicks, turns, and jumps, but with a strong focus on choreography and building routines. Dance only, no singing here!

Contemporary
Grade 1 to adults

Contemporary (sometimes referred to as Modern) dance began in the late 19th century as an exploration of movement outside of the conventions of ballet. In our contemporary classes, we play with lots of different concepts like use of gravity, contract and release, floorwork, partner work, improvisation, travel, levels, speed, and dynamics. Contemporary is an excellent place to start as a beginner because you can learn to move your body through space without also having to focus on specific technical elements found in styles such as ballet, jazz and tap.

Lyrical
Grade 3 to adults

Lyrical is best understood as a fusion of ballet, jazz, and contemporary techniques against the backdrop of storytelling. Often slow, but not always, movement is inspired by the lyrics in a song. It is an expressive and poetic style of dance that enables students to feel and experience emotion through movement. Lyrical is not recommended for beginners and best suited for students who have some ballet, jazz, or contemporary technique already in their dance vocabulary.

AcroDance
Preschool to High School

Where gymnastics is a sport, acrodance is an art. Based on safe & effective progressions in flexibility, strength, balancing, limbering & tumbling, students learn to combine these elements with dance technique to create expressive and impressive movement to music. Because these classes focus only on the acrobatic components (and not the necessary dance skills also needed), students must also be enrolled in a technical dance class to be eligible to enrol in acrodance. We utilise the Acrobatic Arts Program.

Private Lessons
All ages

We offer private lessons in all styles, subject to teacher availability. These are useful for students joining technical classes at an older age or enrolling mid-year. Private lessons are popular for adults for a variety of reasons such as preparing for a wedding dance, or simply building confidence for the dance floor. They are also great for students who prefer to work one-on-one, need extra support, or desire an extra challenge.

Performance Group
Grade 3+

As a non-competitive school, we like to find unique ways to increase performance opportunities while also giving back to the community. Performance Group students work on choreography and represent Dance Habit at events and community festivals throughout the year. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a minimum of two other classes (including both ballet and jazz). A costume fee applies for enrolments in this class.

Mat Pilates
Adults

Pilates is a specific range of controlled movements executed on a mat, with a focus on breathwork. This class is brilliant for adults of all ages and levels with plenty of alternatives provided to cater to all. You’ll build muscular strength, increase mobility, and improve stability. Pilates pairs perfectly with any of the dance styles on offer to improve your dance experience but it can also be taken as a stand-alone class.

Golden Groovers

This is a dance class for mature-aged students, 60 years and over. Research proves that regular dancing improves strength and balance, reduces joint pain and stiffness, minimises symptoms of depression and even defends against dementia! Join us to stay active, meet new friends, move to great music and learn something new. Golden Groovers moves at a more leisurely pace than our regular adult classes with a focus on fun. We welcome everyone regardless of fitness level, dance experience or body type. Should you have any physical limitations, simply let us know and we’ll adapt the lessons to suit you. See you on the dance floor!
