Inclusive Dance

Inclusion is important to us at Dance Habit!

Sometimes our dancers may need some additional supports to feel at home in the studio. We are proud to offer pathways for children and adults with additional or different learning needs.

Introductory Session

We recommend starting with an Introductory Session. This is our first step to get to know the individual and understand their specific challenges alongside any desired outcomes.

  • An Introductory Session is a single lesson that gives a potential new student the opportunity to meet one of our team, check out our dance studio space and explore some foundations of dance.

  • We work on finding songs, props, movement pathways and exercises that engage the individual and make their learning experience safe and enjoyable.

  • After an Introductory Session, our team will reach out to discuss options, which may include ongoing private lessons, enrolment in our All2Gather class or a hybrid.

Private Lessons

Ongoing private lessons may be suggested to keep working on dance foundations and to establish a strong connection with the studio space and teacher.

  • Continued 1-1 lessons help us to learn more about the student and tailor programs accordingly. Each program will be designed around the individual student's goals and desired outcomes.

  • Continued support from all caregivers ensures the best outcome for the student and their development.

All2Gather Class

All2Gather is our inclusive rhythm and dance class specially catered for people with additional or different learning needs.

  • These classes aim to increase confidence and self-esteem and are a great outlet for creativity and imagination.

  • We create a fun and safe environment for students to learn and grow with their peers.

  • We encourage and support everyone to achieve their best through music and dance.

  • Through dance, we teach important life skills that lay the foundation to build a successful future.

Our approach

Our inclusive dance approach is informed by the Rhythm Works Program, which senior members of our team have completed training in. Rhythm Works is our commitment to making dance accessible for ALL. You can read more here, check out this video and learn some more about our thoughts on inclusion on our blog.

If you’re looking for an inclusive dance program, we’d love to welcome you to our community and share the benefits of dance with you and your family!

★★★★★
We were lucky enough to have Dance Habit provide Rhythm Works classes at Jennings Street School over a four-week program during our Physical Education sessions. The Rhythm Works program was well suited to our students who are on the autism spectrum. The program was well structured and age appropriate. Tammy was a brilliant instructor and the kids loved her. We look forward to offering Rhythm Works classes to more of our students in the future.”
